Its a somber day.
I am in mourning for the true star of the world cup – Paul the psychic octopus. The great cephalopod peacefully passed away in his tank last night in Oberhausen, Germany. He had correctly predicted the results of all six of Germany’s world cup matches plus the third place play off and the world cup final itself.
Paul, an English octopus by birth, lived a fruitful life, for an octopus. Apparently octopuses only live for 2 years so his lifespan, 2 and a half years, is pretty respectable as far as squiggly unshapely things go. I guess the hunt is now on to find a replacement. Did he spawn any octopus offspring that share his uncanny powers? Or perhaps, he has lifted the lid on a new arm of octopus research. Maybe they are psychic but no one ever asked! I have a feeling though that we aren’t going to find many mollusks who can hit the jackpot quite like him. RIP Paul, you shall be missed!
