Shit!
Damn and blast it! I missed it! The 2011 Masturbate-a-thon! This festival of communal masturbating, a furious shuffling of wrists and a vigorous plunging of vibrators took place in San Fransisco at the end of May. For the last few weeks I’ve been wracking my brains about forgetting something important. I knew there was something! And it was this wonderful weekend of wanking that I missed.

I doubt that, had I entered, if I would be able to have competed alongside these great masturbatory athletes. I mean look at what you are up against. Proper professional masturbators who’s stamina is so amazing that you’d wonder if we ought to test their urine for performance enhancing drugs. You have the penis pulling and flange fiddling equivalents of Michael Phelps or Jackie Joyner-Kersee. The world record wanker’s nationality? Japanese.

No surprises there then. Cracking write up below by Dawn Anderson.

The Center for Sex and Culture (CSC) held its 12th annual Masturbate-a-thon on
May 21st and 22nd in San Francisco to celebrate of May is Masturbation
Month.  The Masturbate-a-Thon is the non-profit Center’s annual
fundrasing event that supports its mission “to provide judgment-free
education, cultural events, a library/media archive, and other resources
to audiences across the sexual and gender spectrum; and to research and
disseminate factual information, framing and informing issues of public
policy and public health.”

If you don’t live in SF or happened to miss the event, never fear!  You can still participate.

Here’s what they suggest:

“Collect pledges and do the Masturbate-a-Thon at home! The entire
month is National Masturbation Month, so pick a day to celebrate,
arrange for one or more supporter to pledge you, and celebrate
yourself!  You can even Pledge yourself, and the minimum bid for
self-pledging is $20.”–Masturbate-a-thon

So, being the DYI girl that I am, yesterday I masturbated every hour
beginning at 9am for 12 hours in a row, tweeting my updates via
Twitter.  See my tweets (image).  And, how did I get through 12
masturbation sessions in one day you may ask?  Well, it is a good thing I
had my trusty Adam&Eve Rechargeable Vibrator and Fairy Wand Vibe on
hand. (Reviews coming soon!).  To tell you the truth that last three
sessions were pretty challenging because I was getting rather numb, and
lacking momentum at that point.

I also signed up to the CSC Facebook Pledge page
and invited others to join me, either via donations and pledges, or by
masturbating themselves, or by liking or retweeting my tweets.  Isn’t
social networking great?

The Masturbate-A-Thon started back in 1994 in protest of when Surgeon
General Joycelyn Elders was fired from her job for supporting
masturbation by saying: “I think that it is part of human sexuality, and
perhaps it should be taught.”–Wikipedia

Sex-positive sex toy shop GoodVibes.com then declared May as National Masturbation Month and the Masturbate-A-Thon began.

Japanese native, Masanobu Sato, holds the record for the longest
masturbation at the event in SF for just under 10 hours (9 hours and 58
minutes).  He attributes his amazing masturbating stamina to the use of
Tenga masturbators.

This year the Masturbate-A-Thon was called “the Rapture” and a few things changed as the CSC moved into a smaller venue:

“In years past, the Masturbate-a-Thon has been webcast live, but this
year that was too much to take on… Also suspended, just this once,
was the option for people to try to set new world records in duration of
time masturbated, number of orgasms, and so forth…”–Carol Queen,
GoodVibes Magazine.

This year 70 people attended the live event at CSC, and still many
more pledged their own online.  The first day (Sat) was opened to women
and couples and the second day (Sun) for men and couples.

May isn’t over yet, so you can still create your own
Mastrubate-A-Thon and pledge to the CSC (of course you can do this
anytime!).  Also, stay tuned to the official masturbate-a-thon.com
website where you can read their press and also about past ‘Thons.

So, take the pledge, and as Carol Queen says:

“Get some pledges, pleasure yourself, and donate the money to the
Center for Sex & Culture or your other favorite sex-positive or
health education charity. It makes you feel so great about self-love to come for a cause!”–Carol Queen, GoodVibes Magazine.

So get masturbating!  It’s good for you!
